Vinum animi speculum
Organic as a philosophy of life and not as a brand

Wine is the expression or, rather, the result of a co-working between many factors. There is the climate, which with its micro differences generates peculiar aspects on each slope of the hills; there is the soil, which with its composition and layers provides unique characteristics, where the roots sink and tangle; there is the work and the passion, where strong hands take care of the development of the plants in all its phenological phases.

PIEMONTE DOC
PINOT NERO

DESCRIPTION

2021 Vintage: a relevant dry year, winter with medium-low temperatures and good snowfall with snow covering the surface for quite long periods. Average-scarce rainfall in the spring and very little in the summer with temperatures around the average. A typical feature of the Alta Langa is the high temperature range between night / day which helps to express and preserve the excellent aromas of the wines. The vineyards are located on a slightly steep hill facing SOUTH / SOUTH-EAST. Monesiglio, the municipality where the vineyards are, is considered a mountain municipality, which however enjoys a high influence of nearby Liguria and its sea. Very typical is the wind that blows right along the valley from the sea, called “märin” in Piedmonts dialect, which, thanks to the Altare or Cadibona pass, creeps into the valley bringing salty notes and temperatures typical of the coast.

Plant year 2018.
French clone screw grafted onto an American graft holder.
Certified organic vineyard and Simonit & Sirch plant pruning and conservation system

Fertilization every other year exclusively with locally sourced manure from NON-intensive farms.

The vineyard is located at an average altitude of 420 m asl in Alta Langa, in the municipality of Monesiglio (CN). It has a SOUTH / SOUTH-EAST exposure.
Soil that is divided into the first roads of a clayey / silty soil of red color with a high content of iron oxides and hydroxides. After a few meters of depth, the marls begin.

This part of Langa, has a defined geological era, is part of the ancient Piedmont tertiary basin. In particular, here we are in the presence of the sandstones of the Rocchetta-Monesiglio formation (Miocene geological era: Serravallian-Tortonian).

Harvest at the end of September with selection and thinning of the grapes (done prior to the harvest).

Good ripening and sugar yield of the bunches, with a medium-low yield in terms of volume of must, due to the very low rainfall in the summer.

The wine-making takes place in steel tanks with maceration on the skins for the entire fermentation.
Drawing off and decanting of the clean for maturation in tonneaux and barriques of French origin (second or more passage). Aging for 8/12 months.

Light and limpid ruby red wine. Pleasant and soft in the mouth with high drinkability also due to the medium-low alcohol content (13.5%). Excellent aromas of red berried fruits, such as cherry, raspberry and strawberry. Good persistence and instinct for good maturation in the bottle.

Corks with DIAM technology.
