Wine

Wine is the expression or, rather, the result of a collaboration among many factors. There’s the climate, which with its micro differences creates peculiar aspects on each ridge of the hills; there’s the soil, which with its composition and layers provides unique characteristics, where the roots sink and entangle; there’s the labor and passion, where strong hands and sweat follow the development of the plants through all their phenological phases.

DESCRIPTION

Recent particularly dry vintages, winters with medium-low temperatures and few snowy precipitations with snow staying on the ground for short periods. Medium-low rains in the spring periods and very scarce in the summer periods with average seasonal temperatures. A peculiarity of the Altalanga is the high thermal excursion between night/day that helps to express and preserve excellent aromas of the wines. The vineyards are exposed and located on a gently sloping panettone on the SOUTH/SOUTH-EAST side of the Langhe. Monesiglio, the municipality where the vineyards are situated, is considered a mountainous area, which however enjoys a high influence from the nearby Liguria and its sea. Very typical is the wind that blows right along the valley from the sea, called märin which, thanks to the Altare gap or Cadibona hill, sneaks into the valley bringing salty notes along the valley and typical coastal temperatures.

VINEYARD MANAGEMENT

All our vineyards are set up according to the Simonit&Sirch method, four simple rules, controlled branching, continuity of flow, crown cuts, and respect wood!!!
We immediately introduced this methodology because we believe that following and accommodating, through pruning, the natural tendency of the vine to branch is the key to ensuring it a long and healthy life.

Organic as a philosophy of life and not as a brand

PIEDMONT DOC
CLASSICAL METHOD

Grafted vines with French clone, planted in 2018.
Certified organic vineyard management and Simonit&Sirch pruning and conservation system, fertilization exclusively with locally sourced manure from non-intensive farms.
The vineyard is located at 440 m above sea level in Alta Langa, Monesiglio (CN), with a SOUTH-EAST exposure. Strong, loamy/clayey soil, interspersed with sand layers. The red color (mont’ russ in dialect) indicates a high presence of iron oxides and hydroxides. Ascending in the vineyard, the soil lightens to become white marl. Monesiglio has a defined geological era and is part of the ancient Piedmont tertiary basin. In particular, here we find the sandstones of the Rocchetta-Monesiglio formation (Miocene era: Serravallian-Tortonian).

Grape selection, harvest in early September, good yield due to the beneficial spring rainfall. Vinification in steel with the use of dry ice, no maceration on the skins as the must color was already intense, controlled temperature fermentation, maturation in steel for 4 months and subsequent aging on lees in the bottle in a natural humid environment.

Light straw yellow color, pleasant in the mouth with good acidity, excellent aromas of flowers, crust of bread, good persistence in the mouth.

Corks with DIAM technology.

100% Pinot Noir, Blanc de Noir.

2021

PIEDMONT DOC
PINOT NOIR

Planted in 2018.
Grapevine with French clone grafted onto American rootstock.
Certified organic vineyard management and Simonit & Sirch pruning and conservation system. Biannual fertilization exclusively with locally sourced manure from NON-intensive farms. The vineyard is located at an average altitude of 420 m above sea level in Alta Langa, in the Monesiglio (CN) municipality. It has a SOUTH/SOUTH-EAST exposure. Soil composed initially of red clayey/loamy soil with a high content of iron oxides and hydroxides. A few meters down, marls begin. This part of Langa has a defined geological era, being part of the ancient Piedmont tertiary basin. Specifically, here we find the sandstones of the Rocchetta-Monesiglio formation (Miocene era: Serravallian-Tortonian).

Harvest at the end of September with selection and thinning of the grapes. Good maturation and sugar yield of the bunches, with a medium-low yield in terms of must volume, due to the very low rainfall during the summer. Vinification in steel tanks with maceration on the skins for the entire fermentation.

Drawing off and transferring of the clean for maturation in tonneaux and barriques of French origin (second passage). Aging for 8/12 months.

Wine with a light and clear ruby red color. Pleasant and soft in the mouth with high drinkability, also due to the medium-low alcohol content (13.5%). Excellent aromas of red berried fruits, such as cherry, raspberry, and strawberry. Good persistence and inclination for good maturation in the bottle.

PIEDMONT DOC
RIESLING

Planted in 2018.

Grapevine with German clone grafted onto American rootstock.
Certified organic vineyard management and Simonit & Sirch pruning and conservation system.

Fertilization every other year exclusively with locally sourced manure from NON-intensive farms.
The vineyard is at an average altitude of 440 m above sea level in Alta Langa, in the Monesiglio (CN) municipality. It has a SOUTH/SOUTH-EAST exposure.

Soil starting with a red clayey/loamy top layer rich in iron oxides and hydroxides, transitioning to white hues higher up in the vineyard, typical of the surface layers of crumbled marls. After a few meters of depth, true marls begin.

This part of Langa has a defined geological era and is part of the ancient Piedmont tertiary basin. Specifically, we are in the presence of sandstones from the Rocchetta-Monesiglio formation (Miocene era: Serravallian-Tortonian).

Harvest in early October with selection and thinning of grapes.

High maturation and sugar yield of the bunches, with a medium-low yield in terms of must volume, due to very low rainfall during the summer.

Vinification in steel tanks without maceration on the skins for the entire fermentation, which is carried out cold between 12 and 15°C.

Racking of the clean for maturation on fine lees in steel tanks, with controlled temperature (10/12°C), until late spring.

Wine with a light straw yellow color, clear. Pleasant in the mouth with good acidity. Excellent aromas of citrus and hints of hydrocarbon. Notes of green apple. Good persistence in the mouth and inclination for good maturation in the bottle. The beauty of this wine is seeing it evolve over time simply by maturing in the bottle.

Corks with DIAM technology.
