Boschetto Alta Langa

A new-born family-run business with deep roots

The passion for good wine and agriculture are the fuel of this unique project: to revive an old and distinguished farmhouse, with the picturesque name of Cascina Boschetto. The ancient building with the surrounding land is centrally located in Alta Langa, between the villages of Monesiglio and Camerana. This old farmstead is surrounded by rolling hills, with great exposure, early accessible from the main road – Strada Provinciale SP439. The landscapes in Alta Langa are simply stunning and these hills with the Alps in the background leave you speechless. Each season is different…in every season nature paints memorable panoramas. There are sunrises and sunsets beautiful enough to be framed.
The property consists of 11 hectares, of which two are mainly wooded and the rest is arable. The arable plots (all between 370m and 470m above sea level) have been submitted for culture-transformation and most of them are in the process of becoming vineyards. The surrounding area of the stone-farmstead still holds the memory of its time, through the presence of an old and impressive stairway, which was originally a beautiful entrance of a now-demolished aristocratic residence, and an ancient chapel.

The memory of this unique place and its heritage are going to see a new bright light. The challenging project is to refurbish all these ruins of the original construction by giving a second life to the entire complex. Beyond that, we aim to plant vineyards and start a new cellar, Cantina Magliano.

Discovering Alta Langa and its landscape

Since the beginning we were supported by experienced people from the adjacent areas of the Langhe region. The advice was often linked to the viticulture tradition of the nearby areas (Alba and Langhe, the North part), where the vine is monoculture. However, the way in which we have always imagined the Alta Langa landscape is far from a monoculture. We have taken the valuable experience and suggestions as the foundation of our viticulture knowledge, but then we moved forward with our vision.

For example, we have kept bulldozing and digging off the land to a minimum. Of course, big soil movements would have probably made the land more arable and mechanizable, but it would compromise the natural contours of these unstable hills. We decided to optimize the interventions in digging and reshaping the plots. The following actions are some of the low-profile preparation works that have been undertaken to prepare the new crops: contouring of the arable areas, refurbishment of “muri a secco” (dry stone walls) and planning of a rainwater management system to avoid flooding and stagnation.

The goal was to increase the stability of the hills without invasive interventions. Nature may respond within decades; therefore, heavy human interventions can easily become a counterproductive choice in the long term.

“The Enhancement of the Alta Langa and its landscape throughout the preservation of its existing ‘skeleton’ is the basic cultural principle of our entrepreneurial project”

Giovanni’s citation

White grape

First harvest: September 2020

The first vineyards of Cantina Magliano consist of

Pinot Nero a red grape variety, for planned production of our sparkling white wine, Méthode champenoise Alta Langa, and his majesty the homonym red wine.

Riesling, a white grape variety, to produce an intense and full-bodied wine.

Dolcetto (autochthonous) a red grape variety, which will be used to produce our “vino da tavola”. One of the typical drinks you would see at a Piedmontese banquet.

Boschetto Alta Langa is

a work in progress… stay tuned!

Boschetto Alta Langa is an idea of integration between winemaking and tourist accommodation, in the form of a bed & breakfast. Other than the winemaking and -production, the idea is to offer various attraction/services combining cultural and food and wine events, nature discovering adventures and outdoor sports (trekking, cycling gravel/mtb and horse back riding). What attracts the most is the possibility of crossing tows, villages and cultivated areas as well as encountering vast pristine areas, losing yourself in the beauty of this diversity.

The accommodation consists of 4 large bedrooms, a central room for breakfast and a reading area, a big terrace for Aperitivos with a view over the valley and, last but not least, a heated swimming pool.

Everything has been thought of in order to create an oasis to relax, which allows the guest to disengage from their routine and live an intense experience.

Boschetto Alta Langa is located south not far from the Alps, as well as from the Mediterranean Sea. The driving time is around 1 hour for both.

The lovely farmstead can be a starting point for different activities ranging from wine tasting, relaxing in nature, trekking, cycling and other outdoor experiences to observe the countless animal and plant species and a lot more…

Giovanni Magliano

I would call myself a “Bob aggiusta tutto”, which can be translated as great craftsman. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, even though since childhood was clear that studying was not my call. After university I started the career as a project coordinator for a couple of years, giving it up quite soon because of bigger dreams….

I am a determined, pragmatic and meticulous person. Manual skills and attention to details are my forte.

Marco Magliano

I am the older of the two and am also an engineer, but in the civil/building environment.
Structures have been my passion since childhood. I have been always the most dutiful and committed between the two. Passionate regarding science and traveling, I love reading and understanding how things work. I spend most of my free time practicing outdoor sports, such as skiing and cycling. I wanted to get to know the

world better and left home to travel and work abroad for some years. I am now ready to bring back my small heritage, or experience whatever you want to call it, and help my brother to accomplish our dream.

About us

Two brothers brought together by a unique project

Comparing them to nature, Giovanni is a tree who took root in this piece of land. Marco is like a bee, who collects from various flowers and brings nectar back to the hive.
